Conservatives and progressives present two sides of the ultimate question: how should we respond to change? Conservatives want stability during change. Progressives want change during change. Both are necessary and need each other. We want evolution not revolution.

This divide is only exacerbated during a time of massive exponential technological change. But the need for both is increased as well.

In times of change, we need conservatism: Stability, coherence, consistency, safety, truths. Nouns. And in times of change we need progressivism: Contextualizing, adjusting, vectoring, experimenting. Verbs.

“Everything in moderation, even moderation.”
